Somerset County League Premier Division - Castle Cary 0 Shirehampton 1
- A narrow defeat in our first league home game of the season against a noisy Shirehampton side.
Cary's line up: Stewart,Price,Robinson,Smith,Scriven,Mitchell,Warren, B Pike,Case,Hayhoe,Wilton with Njie, T Pike and Chainey on the bench.
In the first half we started brightly and at times played some really good football. Stewie was only called into action twice and we had plenty of possession. Chances came thick and fast with shots from Caser, Liam, Rhys, Robbo and Marcus whisting past the goal. Their keeper was certainly busy watching most of our efforts go past him but unfortunately off target. He did need to make a couple of saves from Brad and Rhys. Rhys also hit the post after a well worked free kick.
I think if we had scored in the first half we would have won this. We should also have had a penalty in my opinion for handball.
We started brightly again in the second half and created two good openings in the first 5 minutes . Unfortunately they broke up the field after the second effort and scored from a deflected cross and free header. 1-0 to Shirehampton. After that, until the last 15m, it was all Shirehampton as we stopped playing and they could have had 2 or 3 more but for some woeful finishing and some fine stops by Stewie. Loads of effort from the boys in red but not much football. Tony and Steve came on and that helped a bit and eventually we kicked on and had a very good last 15 minutes when we were all over them and very unfortunate not to get an equaliser.
Final score 0-1 - Another game where we lacked a bit of consistency and didn't get much luck up front. Full marks for effort and we'll get there - because at times we are very good.
