Somerset County League Premier Division  - Winscombe 0  Castle Cary 4
-
A brilliant start to the season with a comprehensive win at Winscombe in the sunshine.

Cary's line up: Stewart,Taylor,Robinson,Smith,Scriven,Mitchell,Warren,Pike,Case,Hayhoe,Njie with Price,Wilton and Ferrett on the bench.

The first half started briskly and Cary were soon in control and threatening the Winscombe goal with both Warren and Hayhoe going close in the first few minutes. On 5 minutes a free kick was lofted into the area  , Winscombe failed to clear and Smith smashed it home for Cary's first goal of the season. 1-0 to Cary.

Cary were dominant and pushing forward well , particularly on the left with Scriven and Case combining well at times. Hayhoe headed wide from a super cross from Scriven on 14 minutes.

It was all Cary for the rest of the half and from their 4th corner Hayhoe again went close with another header.  The supporters were worried - we needed another goal before half time to put this out of Winscombes reach . Need not have worried because  on 41 minutes Pike Case and Warren with a deft short passing move gives Hayhoe a chance and its 2 -0 as he buries it in the back of the net .  Scriven has an attempt saved by the keeper just before half time.

Half Time 2 -0 and well on top - Winscombe look good coming forward but shaky in midfield where Cary are dominant and bossing the game. Smith has the back four working as a unit and giving Winscombe's lively front 2 no change at all.

The second half starts with Winscombe switching to 3 up front and really going for it. However Hayhoe and Njie are sharp and pacy  on the  counter - Njie's pace beats a defender after they gift him the ball and he scores to make it 3-0 on 51 minutes - game over?

The 3rd goal spurs Winscombe on and they put us under some pressure  Stewart having to make a couple of sharp saves  - one with his feet! However we hit them on the break again - Njie beats 3 players then slips the ball to Warren who hammers it home for 4-0 and now it is game over after that 57th minute strike.

The game than gets a bit scrappy and we lose our way a bit  - on come our subs for a run out and for the last 10 minutes we were back in control . A late yellow card  for Price after a clumsy challenge  the only booking of the game.

Full Time 4-0. Summary - A very good performance aginst a side that will probably struggle this season - Onwards and upwards - enjoy the league table! Our Respect policy is beginning to bear fruit - Slim was heard quite loudly complimenting and supporting the referee this afternoon!!!
