That Lampard Moment !!!!
It was a lovely evening at Keinton, with Alan Cox's award winning pitch looking great and providing a very suitable venue for the Hospital Cup Final. A good crowd turned out and with SFA and League officials in place  we expected a showpiece match for the YDFL Premier Divison between 2 sides that had won the cup between them for the last 3 years.

Match Referee was Steve Forrester, with assistants  Mark Taylor and  Steve James.

Castle Cary Line up: Simon Jefferies, Liam Frapple, Rob Manley, James Wenglorz, Ross Elliott, Neil Miller, Nick Elsworth, Simon Messenger, Mathew Lawrence, Shane Pulling, Liam Wilton . Super subs , Alex Frapple, Callum Chainey, Tim Davey. Assistant Manager Ray Ackerman and Merv Pullen, Physio on the sidelines.

I certainly expected this to be tough game for Cary as Westlands  usually  put out a good footballing side who are difficult to beat.

For the first 18 minutes it was a bit hectic but we were looking good  and playing some neat flowing football. Westlands seemed to be preoccupied with moaning at the ref all the time. We created 3 good chances in the first 15 minutes with Liam W twice and  Shane both going close. On 19 minutes Cary were awarded a free kick on the half way line . Westlands held their line on the edge of the box and Liam F took the free kick catching everyone by surprise with a 50 yard strike at goal which rebounded off the crossbar for  Ross Elliott to smash home. 1-0 to Cary. ( Liam after the game admitted that he did not intend it  - he was aiming for the top left corner!)

Well we liked that one  - bit lucky maybe but we will take them all in a final.

Westlands were now looking shaky and the yellow card was coming out as they were still arguing. Could this be Cary's night? 2 minutes later we had a terrific individual goal from the gaffer. Simon Messenger won the ball on the edge of the box and Lampard like beat two tackles and found the corner of the net. 2-0 to Cary. 5 minutes later its 3-0 and Westlands are all over the place with their discipline going. Shane's free kick is deflected in for an own goal. For the rest of the half we batter them and its one way traffic with Simon, in his rather fetching lime green jersey, just a spectator. ( someone asked me to say that!)

Half Time 3-0 and compliments being paid to me by League officials on our performance and attitude .

We expected Westlands to come back at us in the second half . This did not happen until a second yellow for one of there players took them to 10 men and they put subs on. This  livened them up a bit and thay got one back which we did not deal with too well , but hey who cares because we came back at them with more chances to score .

On came our subs who effortlessly slotted into the side .On 75 minutes Liam  Wilton made it 4 and 3 minutes from time, with Westlands now down to 9 men after a straight red, Shane Pulling made it 5 and that was that.

Westlands lost their discipline in the second half and let themselves down.              Final Score Castle Cary 5 Westland Sports Reserves 1

Match Summary.
A superb disciplined performance from a  great bunch of players who are a really good team. They  did Castle Cary and Ansford proud on Monday night. You were a credit to the Club and  a credit to the Town .
